Dr. Abdulelah ben Abad Al-Towerki received a letter from Prof. Paul Rothman, President of Johns Hopkins University, which includes the appointment of Dr. Al-Towerki as a part-time professor at Johns Hopkins University in U.S.A. This decision came after the meeting of the university board held in 28/10/2015.
Currently, Dr. Al-Towerki is the General Executive Director of King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) and Deputy Chairman of Blindness Prevention Committee. He published 39 scientific researches in international peer-reviewed journals in addition to 3 medical researches still under completion. Some of these researches are about new therapeutic methods in ophthalmic surgery. He also published three medical books.
Dr. Al Towerki is a senior academic consultant in anterior segment, corneal, and refractive medicine. He is also a member of the Saudi Society for Ophthalmology, a member of the American Ophthalmological Society and a member of the Federal Eye Bank Association of America. He performed the first Lasik surgery at KKESH and trained many ophthalmologists on Lasik, anterior segment and refractive surgeries. As a visiting professor, he initiated Lasik surgeries in many private hospitals several years ago and he was the first to implement stem cell culture in the Kingdom. In the first Conference for stem cells which was held in 12/4/2014 in the hospital, he was appointed as the President of the Middle East Cornea Association.
