Conclusion of the Fireworks Campaign (in the Blink of an Eye)

King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) has succeeded in reducing the number of eye injuries resulting from fireworks. Cases received by the hospital in 2018 were reduced by 43% and cases of severer injuries by 75% compared to last year. It is worth mentioning that KKESH has launched awareness campaign under the slogan (in the Blink of an Eye) at the end of Ramadan to spread awareness about the risks of fireworks and the damages that they may cause to the eye. The campaign report showed that the social media were the most interactive channels with the campaign in the Kingdom.  The total interactions with the campaign have reached (5 million). The number of people who saw the campaign tweets exceeded (2 millions) and the number of viewers of the video attached with the tweets exceeds (600.000). Statistics showed that the number of snapchat video viewers exceeded 913.000.

In addition to spreading awareness messages in the media, the awareness campaign included an exhibition which was held in Taibah Souk. The exhibition included direct meetings between doctors and visitors, presenting educational films and distribution of awareness booklets on the dangers of fireworks.

This campaign was carried out by the hospital in consideration of the increasing dangers of fireworks on the eye especially in Eid occasion. It is part of the awareness and educational programs that aim to serve the community and raise health awareness in general and eye health awareness in particular.
