King Khaled Eye Specialist hospital has achieved the seventh stage (HIMSS Stage7) in the adoption of the Electronic Health record (EHR). This classification falls under the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), located in Chicago, United States.
This achievement is the first of its kind in the Middle East. It came in recognition of KKESH compliance with the highest standards of quality in the implementation of Electronic Health Record System (EHR).
“This achievement is to be added to KKESH significant achievements in the past years. It has placed KKESH in the rank of globally advanced centers in using information technology for healthcare industry. This accomplishment was the result of the staff cooperative efforts towards providing unique patient healthcare, and in compliance with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz directives which insist on providing the highest quality of patients services under the supervision of the Health Minister and his deputy”, said The Executive Director Dr. Abdulelah bin Abbad Al-Towerki .
Mr. Ammar Hijazi, Director of Information Technology Department at KKESH, mentioned “by this international achievement, we reflect (Vision 2030) being a pioneer model in the world. It also reflects of the sense of responsibility and cooperation among all hospital staff including executive personnel, health practitioners and administrators.”
He added: " “HIMSS” organization developed Electronic Health Record System (EHR) to follow-up and evaluate the progress in the implementation of these systems, and to measure their role in the advance of the hospitals listed in their database. By following up the implementation of stages starting from 0 to 7, hospitals can measure the level of advance toward the targeted stage (7) which is the ultimate stage in Electronic health record (EHR).
It is worth mentioning that King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital is on the list of the most advanced hospitals worldwide. It efficiently uses such high standard healthcare technologies. In the United States only 4.2% from a total of 5454 candidate hospitals were awarded Stage 7. Furthermore, Only 4 hospitals in Europe, one Korean hospital in Asia and 3 hospitals in China were awarded stage 7.
This achievement comes in addition to "My Chart" service. It is a secure website that enables patients to access their personal health information. It is available 24 hours and can be accessed anywhere with internet connection by using the medical record number as a username and a personal password. The service allows patients to review their medical information such as appointments, allergies, medications, tests, etc. It also facilitates communication between the patient and hospital through electronic channels.
