Ophthalmic Technical Programs

The ophthalmic technical programs are designed to meet the orientation and continuing education needs of ophthalmic assistants and technicians.

Advisement and tutoring are offered to employees who wish to obtain certification from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) at the levels of certified ophthalmic assistant (COA) and certified ophthalmic technician (COT). The JCAHPO certification examination is proctored annually at KKESH.

The following programs are open to all KKESH staff and to employees of affiliate healthcare institutions:

• JCAHPO accredited lectures series
• JCAHPO examinations of different levels

• JCAHPO Certification for 2009 at KKESH (Scheduled Dates)

• JCAHPO skill evaluation for COT level and performance test for COMT level (computer simulation)

• COA lecture series
• Schedule for COA lectures
• COT lecture series
• Schedule for COT lectures
• Basic Ophthalmic Lectures (BOP)
• First Aid Program
• Comprehensive Medical Terminology Course
• Schedule for MTC Course 
• Outpatient Services Staff competency assessment and in-service training (KKESH Employees only)

The following technical programs are limited to Saudi nationals at affiliate healthcare institutions and universities:

• Clinical Assistant Program (CAP)
• Saudi Ophthalmic Assistant Program (SOAP)
