Summary

The mission of the Pharmacy is to provide pharmaceutical care and assist in the attainment of the KKESH Mission. Pharmacists and pharmacy staff coordinated and integrated with other caregiver’s effect improved patient outcomes by cost effective medication distribution, and by preventing or detecting and resolving drug related problems both by increasing the effectiveness of the drug therapy or by avoiding drug misadventures, such as, medication errors or adverse drug reactions. The KKESH Pharmacy provides the highest possible standard of services under the guidance of established KKESH policy and procedure and within the laws, rules and regulations of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health.

Scope

Pharmaceutical care is an essential element of healthcare and is provided to all patient age groups. Pharmaceutical care is defined as the responsible provision of drug therapy and other medication/health related services for the purpose of achieving definite outcomes that improve a patient’s quality of life. These outcomes include: 1) cure of disease, 2) elimination or reduction of symptoms, 3) arresting or slowing of a disease process and 4) disease prevention. KKESH pharmaceutical care includes the process through which pharmacists assist patients and other health care professionals in achieving these outcomes. To achieve these outcomes the pharmacist detects, resolves, and prevents obstacles throughout the course of therapy, functioning as an element of an integrated multidisciplinary health care team.

  • Provision of King Saud University Pharmacy Student Extern training program and other patient and staff educational activities.

  • Participation in research projects that require pharmaceutical services.

  • Acquired Lexi-Com online formulary and database for healthcare professionals use at KKESH.
  • Medication Delivery Mail Services for out of town patients thru a reputable and reliable carrier.
