| Medical Education
The Medical Education Department at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) provides in-house and regional programs for resident and subspecialty fellowship training, as well as continuing medical education in ophthalmology.
Residency Training Program
The Medical Education Department participates in the 4-year Riyadh Residency Training Program in Ophthalmology. The program is administered under the aegis of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties and follows the American model of residency training.
Subspecialty Fellowship Program
The Subspecialty Fellowship Program provides advanced training in each of the major areas of ophthalmology: anterior segment, glaucoma, medical retina, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplastics, ocular pathology, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, vitreoretinal diseases and surgery, and uveitis. Subspecialty fellowships may last 1 or 2 years, depending on the area of training.
Continuing Medical Education
An active continuing medical education program is provided for physicians and other healthcare professionals working at KKESH, as well as for those practicing in Saudi Arabia and in neighboring countries.
Grand Rounds
Weekly Grand Rounds lectures are presented by distinguished international speakers, faculty from KKESH and King Saud University, and other national institutions.
International Visiting Professor Program
Visiting international speakers are routinely invited to be in residence for a week to offer Grand Rounds presentations and daily subspecialty lectures, and to participate in the outpatient, inpatient, and surgical care of our patients in collaboration with hospital physicians within the same subspecialty.
Saudi Ophthalmology Symposium
Of international interest is our annual 4-day symposium presenting new developments in ophthalmology, which is organized in collaboration with the Saudi Ophthalmological Society and the Department of Ophthalmology at King Saud University. Distinguished visiting speakers from abroad, as well as local speakers from KKESH, King Saud University, and other national centers, participate in the lectures and courses offered at this meeting.
