Health Education Department

Summary

The Health Education Department provides health education to KKESH inpatients, outpatients, family members, visitors, and the public.

Scope

The Health Education Department helps promote awareness of ocular and general health issues, thereby helping patients engage in behavior that maximizes their potential for positive health outcomes. Efforts are made to increase community and public awareness of preventative and safety measures related to eyes and ocular disorders.

Services/Functions

The services and functions of the Health Education Department are as follows:

  • Develop and provide assistance in establishing patient education plans for individual patients and specific patient care areas;
  • Provide individual and group patient education programs and counseling for patients and their relatives;
  • Develop, publish, update, and distribute health education materials for patients, their family members, and the general public;
  • Coordinate the hospital public hotline service;
  • Supervise the in-house patient education television program;
  • Maintain a mobile film library for patient viewing;
  • Conduct and coordinate health education campaigns through the mass media and in collaboration with national health programs;
  • Provide education and training to student interns from the health education program at King Saud University;
  • Initiate and host the monthly meetings for Riyadh health education sector hospitals and facilities;
  • Organize the annual Health Education Symposium.

 

Social Services Department

Summary

The Social Services Department provides support and assistance related to the social aspects of patient care to hospital patients and family members.

Scope

The Social Services Department identifies the social aspects of patient care (such as financial difficulty, psychosocial problems, physical disabilities, and emotional stress) and provides appropriate interventions.

Services/Functions

The services/functions of the Social Services Department are as follows:

  • Assess patient and family needs;
  • Provide financial guidance and support, and referral to community agencies and other medical facilities, as required;
  • Provide accommodations to patients and their family members;
  • Provide certificates to patient sitters;
  • Provide assistance to kidney dialysis patients;
  • Conduct patient counseling and discharge planning;
  • Provide education and orientation to the hospital employees;
  • Participate in public activities and programs;
  • Participate in Al-Jenadriyah Festival annually;
  • Provide training programs for students from Riyadh-based universities;
  • Participate in the quarterly meetings for the social services departments of all hospitals in the Riyadh area.

 

Food and Nutrition Services

Summary

Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) provides food and meets the nutritional needs of KKESH patients of all ages.

Scope

In addition to providing meals for hospital patients, employees, and visitors, FANS provides nutritional assessment and planning for the nutritional therapy of patients with diabetes and other chronic diseases, as well as nutritional deficiencies. Age-specific nutritional assessment and care are provided to children and older adults.

Services/Functions

The services/functions of FANS are as follows:

  • Develop and integrate standardized nutritional practices for the hospital;
  • Liaise with the catering company to maintain high standards of nutritional services for patients, employees, and visitors;
  • Provide nutritional needs assessment, counseling, and education for patients;
  • Develop nutritional plans in collaboration with hospital physicians for patients with special requirements.
